I'll never forget the warm glow that engulfed me the first time I saw my own editorial in 2013. It was like falling in love. I remember my heart pumping and my palms sweating as my beautiful model and friend Emily was positioned in front of the bright lights and the camera. I remember all of the people in the room waiting like an audience and feeling overwhelming pressure to deliver. I remember the camera clicking, the lights flashing and then the moment the first image appeared on the screen. The only way I could describe the feeling of seeing that image is by saying that my heart burst. As the shoot went on and escalated, and the people in the room were congratulating me and smiling and gasping at the screen, I grinned like a big idiot and cried. Self-doubt melted and I felt pride, for one of the first times in my life.
An editorial is a blink of a moment that's culminated through weeks and weeks of planning, brainstorming, practicing, experimenting and second-guessing. The culmination of the sweat and tears are what makes that moment one of those memories you bank in your mind in the highlight reel of your life, and changes your future.
The images created during this shoot were selected as a Finalist Entry for the Young Talent Category at The L'Oreal Colour Trophy 2013/14 and it turned out to be where I met Bex, the owner of Willis York for the first time! I made it my goal from then on to get a job at WY!
